I’ve spent the last 2 years under a tremendous amount of stress and you know what I found out? Our bodies are not meant to live under large amounts of stress for long periods of time. My mom always says, “stress will come out!” She means, the body will either get sick or just give up under the pressure of stress if you don’t give it a “safe” way out. That’s just another reason why exercise is so important.
I walk 3 miles several times a week and at least once a week with my mom. If I’ve had a rough day, just getting out in the fresh air changes everything plus, it puts things in perspective and helps me think clearly.
I also found it is important to be active during the workday. I’ll admit, I spend most of my days working behind a computer which means, I have to purposely get outdoors and be active. But, it helps to get out and get a clear head plus, getting just 30 minutes of exercise a day helps reduce your risk for heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
Take advantage of your work day to get in your 30 minutes with these three stay active tips:
1. Stretch – Extend your health with short breaks to extend your arms and legs.
2. Get on your feet – Take a lap around your workplace.
3. Take the stairs – Every stair is a step toward a healthier life.
It’s not hard to get active but it does take some determination and commitment. I want to encourage you to get started today, you won’t regret it!
