As the rain is pouring down on my house right now, I feel a sense of peace that I not only have a storm shelter but I have a prepared storm shelter. Inside of the shelter is a weather radio, flashlights, candles, matches, water, a first aid kit and blankets.
A few years ago I was taking cover with my kids from a tornado I remember thinking, with the birth of smartphones, weather radios were a thing of the past. However, as my kids and I sat in the bathtub, the electricity flickered taking out the loud television that was broadcasting the news. I also quickly realized I could not get a good signal on my phone so the weather apps that I had been watching so carefully were no longer updating. Sudden panic hit me.
At that moment I realized two things, 1) I would be buying a storm shelter by the next season and 2) I needed a weather radio. While we did get through that storm, our neighbors just down the street took considerable damage to their house as the tornado went right over us. I’ve lived in Oklahoma for the majority of my life and have had close calls but that one was too close.
The next day, I bought a weather radio just like this one. By the next tornado season, I had a tornado shelter. Tornadoes were in our state again just this past week and I know we’re already looking at storms all weekend. That being said, this is a good deal on a weather radio and you need one.
This Midland Weather Radio is only $31.97 down from $39.99 which is a great deal.
That being said, I found this one too that looks pretty cool. It’s a Midland Emergency Solar Hand Crank Radio that also includes a flashlight, charger and it emits a dog whistle to alert search and rescue teams! Wow! That’s part scary and part cool all at the same time. It is normally $70 but right now is only $44.89.
Both good deals and worth picking up if you don’t have one!
