Did you know it is possible to save money on produce, even organic produce? Yep, while many of them may not be conventional coupon methods, it is still very possible to save.
Buy local
I love farmer’s markets but if you are trying to save money, look for the corner fruit and veggie stands. I live out in the country and we see a lot of corner stands during the summer. These are usually local farmers selling fruits and veggies at an unbelievable price!
Use Coupons
Yes, there are coupons for produce. Supertarget.com does offer produce coupons from time to time. You can also get coupons from name brand companies like Driscolls Berries.
Buy in Season
It’s not a great idea to buy strawberries in the dead of winter unless you want to shell out some dough for them. Try to buy produce when it is in season then buy enough to freeze all year long. Click here to find more information about freezing your fruits and vegetables.
Buy on Sale
This is one of my basic coupon tips too, plan your weekly menu around sales and coupons. This also goes for produce. If something is on sale that you have never tried before, google a few recipes with that item. You never know, you may find a new favorite. And, yes, you can price match produce at both Target and Walmart.
Try a Co-op
Most states have a co-op. It is a group of local farmers that offer their products on a weekly and/or monthly basis. Google your city and the word co-op to find one near you or if you live in Broken Arrow or Ft. Gibson, check out The Produce Gathering!
A while back, my family and I went berry picking at a local farm. Not only was it an awesome experience, it was also completely FREE! We were eating blueberries all year long without the high costs.
