The forecast is calling for warmer weather… and lots of outdoor activities! From Frisbee to basketball to kite-flying and kickball, there are tons of outdoor activities kids can take a shine to.
Research has shown that children in grades 1-12 are at an increased risk of weight gain and loss of academic skills due to a lack of physical activity during their summer break. Shape Your Future wants to challenge kids and their families to spend time together outdoors being physically active. Instead of racking up points playing video games or on the computer, check out the fun things you can do outdoors and in your community! Be sure to get 60 minutes of physical activity every day during the summer and all year!
Summer can also be a great time to eat healthy while your kids are at home all day and spend some time at your local farmers market. Take your kids to find out what’s growing in Oklahoma this summer. It’s a fun way to learn and fill half your plate with fruits and veggies!
