New Devotional: The Balance Queen

I'm one of those all or nothing people. I don't like to do things halfway which can  be both good and bad. If a new thing comes along, I can easily give 100% of myself to that thing and throw everything else in my life off balance.

In February 2010, I was asked to be on the Joyce Meyer show. I was so excited about it that most of the experience is a complete blur. However, there was one thing she said that has stuck with me. As I was speaking about couponing and getting excited about saving money, she stopped me and said 'Well, I am the Queen of balance...' She continued to talk about how there needs to be balance in our life and basically pointing out that people can take it too far (enter Extreme Couponing for example).

At the time I really didn't think much about it. However, as our business has grown and life has become increasingly more hectic, it has become a statement that goes through my mind several times a day. Easily, without thought, I can end up in a ditch. Balancing marriage, kids, work and time with God is no easy thing to do.

I can tell when I am off balance, my attitude worsens, I'm short with my family and children and that 'edge' in my personality gets a bit sharper than normal. Unfortunately, this happens way more than I wish it did. Now, to remain in balance, I'm having to consciously think about each day and as I go through the day I have to keep a very close eye on my time. How much time am I working? How much time am I spending with my kids? Even, how much time am I watching TV?

For the sake of complete honesty, this area has become a major struggle for me. I'm only mentioning it today because I know God is all about balance and if you are out of balance you can also easily take yourself out from the blessings of God as well. I've seen this in my own life. It is important to keep balance in all things.

If you are struggling in this area, I would encourage you to seek God and ask him to reveal ways for you to overcome and help you develop a schedule of balance. Here are a few scriptures too, write them out on 3x5 cards and read them out loud each day.

"There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience" Hebrews 4:9-11

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

Take the time today to evaluate your life and daily routine. Are you spending enough time in the Word? Sometimes success doesn't come to those who work all the time, it comes to those who know how to work and also know how to play. I just want to encourage you today, become the Queen of Balance. Get those priorities back in the right order, put God on top and then you will see his blessings flow into your life.
